The sealing element within the downhole assembly
An offshore project in the North Sea required zonal isolation in a gas well. Royal Way supplied a wire-mesh-reinforced FKM packer element set. The scope concerned the elastomer assembly used with the downhole tool, not a complete packer system.
Packer elements are described by more than their outside diameter. Their profile, bore, length and position in the set need to correspond to the tool's mechanical arrangement. A drawing of the complete set is therefore useful alongside drawings of individual elements.
Specify the set as an assembly
For a similar requirement, identify whether the order covers one element or a matched set. Record the installation position of each component, any reinforcement requirements and the relationship to adjacent support parts. Casing reference and tool model help establish the application, but they do not replace the element drawing.
Where individual elements have different shapes or specifications, keep those distinctions in the purchase description. A photograph of an assembled set may conceal features that matter when the components are manufactured and inspected separately.
Bring service conditions into the material discussion
The material specification should be considered together with the fluid, temperature, differential pressure and operating sequence. These describe the intended service, while the tool drawing defines how the element is installed. Both are needed to discuss a new configuration sensibly.
Reinforcement is part of the element's construction. Its arrangement should follow the required design rather than be inferred from the appearance of another packer. The same applies to the number and order of elements in a set.
Documentation for receiving and maintenance
A clear delivery list identifies the set, the component positions and the applicable drawing revision. State dimensional inspection and documentation requirements with the order. This gives the receiving team a practical basis for checking the parts before they enter the tool assembly process.
