Nominal pipe size describes the connection, while a section drawing shows the actual part to be manufactured.

A worn sample can help explain the shape and the problem, but it should be compared with the original drawing or an unworn reference. This is particularly useful when similar-looking seals are kept for several different connection types.

Keeping replacements identifiable

An organized spare-parts list separates the rubber seal from its supporting ring and records the required quantities. Where a site uses more than one union configuration, the packaging and part labels should follow that same distinction. The receiving team can then compare the delivered components with the maintenance list without relying on colour or appearance.

For repeat purchases, retain the connection reference and drawing revision. A change to a metal component, groove or seal profile deserves a corresponding update to the replacement-part description.
