Standard Service (NBR) Redress Kit for Model E-4 Setting Tool (#10 & #20)
In the critical phase of wireline completions, the reliability of your Pressure Setting Assembly (WPSA) is the only thing standing between a successful plug-and-perf operation and a costly misrun. At Royal Way, we understand that a single O-ring failure can halt an entire frac fleet. That is why we engineer our Redress Kits not just to “fit,” but to outperform.
Technical Specifications
- Standard Service (NBR): For routine operations up to 250°F.
- High-Temp Service (FKM/Viton®): For deep, hot wells up to 400°F.
- Extreme Service (Aflas®/HNBR): For Sour Gas (H2S) and chemically aggressive environments.

Product: Standard Service (NBR) Redress Kit for Model E-4 Setting Tool (#10 & #20)
1. Executive Summary: The Economic Standard for Routine Completions
Not every well is a High-Temp/High-Pressure (HPHT) monster. For the thousands of vertical wells, shallow laterals, and standard pump-down operations performed daily, you need a maintenance solution that balances Cost-Efficiency with Absolute Reliability.
Our Standard Service (NBR) Redress Kits are the certified choice for rebuilding Baker Style Model E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assemblies (WPSA). Engineered with premium 90 Durometer Nitrile (Buna-N), these kits provide the robust sealing required to set bridge plugs and packers in temperatures up to 250°F (121°C). Whether you are running a Size #10 tool in 4.5″ casing or a Size #20 tool in 7″ casing, Royal Way ensures your tools are redressed to factory specs for a fraction of the OEM cost.
2. Compatibility Guide: Size #10 vs. Size #20
While both tools look similar, they are dimensionally distinct. Our kits are precision-packaged to fit the specific Model E-4 tool sizes.
Select Your Kit Size:
Option A: Size #10 Redress Kit
-
Tool OD: Approx. 2-1/8″ (2.125″)
-
Casing Range: Typically used for 4-1/2″ casing and smaller.
-
Setting Force: Rated for ~35,000 lbs shear force.
-
Common Use: Thru-tubing operations, small bore plugs.
Option B: Size #20 Redress Kit
-
Tool OD: Approx. 3-1/2″ to 3-3/4″
-
Casing Range: Typically used for 5-1/2″, 7″, and 9-5/8″ casing.
-
Setting Force: Rated for ~55,000 lbs shear force.
-
Common Use: Large bore frac plugs, cement retainers, packers.
⚠️ SHOP TIP: The O-rings in a #20 kit are significantly larger. Do not attempt to stretch #10 seals onto a #20 tool, or bunch up #20 seals on a #10 tool. Always verify the tool OD before opening the bag.
3. Material Science: Why “Royal Way” NBR?
Not all Nitrile is created equal. Generic “hardware store” O-rings often lack the modulus to withstand the violent pressure spike of a power charge.
-
90 Durometer Hardness: We use a rigid 90 Shore A compound. This hardness is critical to resist Gap Extrusion when the internal oil pressure spikes to 10,000+ PSI during the setting sequence.
-
Petroleum Resistance: Our NBR formulation is optimized for compatibility with standard hydraulic oils (like Royco or ATF) and wellbore hydrocarbons.
-
Temperature Rating: Safe for continuous operation from -20°F to +250°F.
-
Note: If your well temperature exceeds 250°F, please upgrade to our Viton® (FKM) Kit.
-
4. Kit Contents: What’s in the Bag?
We provide a complete overhaul solution. You don’t need to scavenge for extra parts.
-
Floating Piston Seals (Critical):
-
Includes the primary dynamic O-ring for the piston.
-
Includes 2x PTFE Backup Rings: Even for Standard Service, we always include Teflon backups for the piston to prevent blow-by and soft sets.
-
-
Cylinder Head / Top Sub Seals:
-
Static O-rings to seal the oil chamber connection.
-
-
Manual Bleed-Off Valve Seals:
-
Replacement seals for the pressure release screw. Safety Rule: Replace these every run.
-
-
Lower Adapter / Mandrel Seals:
-
Seals to prevent well fluid ingress at the bottom of the tool.
-
-
Setting Sleeve Seals: (Where applicable for specific tool revisions).

6. Operational Best Practices: Preventing Misruns
-
The “Standard” Mistake: Using NBR in a hot well.
-
Scenario: A well is logged at 280°F. The tech uses an NBR kit to save $20.
-
Result: The NBR takes a compression set (flattens) on the trip down. When the charge fires, the seal fails to hold pressure, oil bypasses the piston, and the plug doesn’t set.
-
Rule: Always abide by the 250°F limit for NBR.
-
-
Lubrication: Use a high-quality O-ring lubricant. Ensure the cylinder walls are free of rust or pitting before installing new seals.
-
Storage: Keep NBR kits away from direct sunlight (UV) and ozone sources (electric motors) in the shop, as NBR is sensitive to UV degradation.
7. Why Royal Way?
-
Batch Traceability: Every bag is printed with a Lot Number and Cure Date.
-
Inventory Security: We keep thousands of kits in stock for high-volume wireline providers.
-
Guaranteed Fit: If your tool is a standard Baker E-4 style, these seals will fit. Period.
