Redress Kit for T-BRT (Bi-Directional Release Tool) | Titan® Style Compatible
In the critical phase of wireline completions, the reliability of your Pressure Setting Assembly (WPSA) is the only thing standing between a successful plug-and-perf operation and a costly misrun. At Royal Way, we understand that a single O-ring failure can halt an entire frac fleet. That is why we engineer our Redress Kits not just to “fit,” but to outperform.
Technical Specifications
- Standard Service (NBR): For routine operations up to 250°F.
- High-Temp Service (FKM/Viton®): For deep, hot wells up to 400°F.
- Extreme Service (Aflas®/HNBR): For Sour Gas (H2S) and chemically aggressive environments.
Sizes
- Available for #10, #20, and Compact Setting Tools etc.
Product: Redress Kit for T-BRT (Bi-Directional Release Tool) | Titan® Style Compatible
1. Executive Summary: The Ultimate Insurance for Stuck Tool Strings
In horizontal pump-down operations, getting stuck is a constant risk. The T-BRT (Bi-Directional Release Tool) acts as your safety link, allowing you to disconnect the wireline from a stuck gun string or setting tool on command.
Our T-BRT Redress Kits provide the essential seal integrity required to ensure this safety mechanism works only when you want it to. Engineered to fit Titan® Style release tools, these kits feature premium O-rings and backup rings that withstand the high vibration of perforating and the pressure surges of pump-down, preventing accidental separation while ensuring a clean release when activated.
2. Compatibility & Function
This kit is designed for the Bi-Directional Release Tool, a critical component usually placed below the Cable Head or CCL.
-
Tool Type: T-BRT (Bi-Directional Release Tool).
-
Style: Compatible with Titan® / Hunting® Style Ballistic Release Tools.
-
Function: Seals the internal electronics and ballistic chamber from wellbore fluids.
-
Standard Size: Fits standard 2-3/4″ or 3-1/8″ OD tools (Please verify tool OD).
⚠️ SAFETY CRITICAL: A leak in the release tool can wet the ballistic fuse, preventing the tool from separating when you need it most. Our seals are inspected to ensure absolute fluid isolation for the release cartridge.
3. Kit Contents: Critical Seal Components
The T-BRT relies on a sealed chamber to house the release cartridge (thermal or electronic). Our kit includes:
-
Housing O-Rings:
-
Heavy-duty O-rings to seal the connection between the Upper Sub and Lower Sub.
-
-
Piston / Mandrel Seals:
-
Dynamic seals that maintain internal pressure integrity during the release sequence.
-
-
Back-Up Rings (PTFE):
-
Virgin Teflon backup rings to prevent O-ring extrusion under high differential pressures (up to 20,000 PSI).
-
-
Contact Assembly Seals:
-
Small precision O-rings to seal the electrical feed-through, ensuring continuity to the release cartridge.
-
-
Shear Screws (Optional/Select Kits):
-
Some kit variations may include replacement brass or steel shear screws used in the release mechanism.
-
4. Material Options: Protection Against Elements[1]
Standard Service (NBR)
-
Application: Vertical wells, standard pump-down, temperatures < 250°F.
-
Benefit: Excellent resistance to abrasion and shock during perforating runs.
High-Temp / H2S Service (Viton® / FKM)
-
Application: Recommended for most Release Tools.
-
Why Upgrade? Release tools are often run at the top of the string and see the most cumulative stress. Viton® provides superior resistance to chemical attack and high temperatures (up to 400°F), ensuring the rubber doesn’t harden and compromise the release action.
5. Technical Focus: Bi-Directional Reliability
The “Bi-Directional” feature means the tool can withstand tension (pulling) and compression (pushing/pumping) without releasing prematurely.
-
Seal Stability: Our O-rings are sized to Aerospace Class A tolerances to ensure they maintain compression even when the tool flexes under the bi-directional loads of a long lateral run.
6. Operational Best Practices
-
Dry Chamber: Before installing the Redress Kit, ensure the internal ballistic chamber is 100% dry and free of carbon residue from previous runs.
-
Check Continuity: After redressing, always verify electrical isolation. A pinched O-ring on the contact pin can cause a short circuit, disabling the release function.
-
Replace Every Run: Given the low cost of a seal kit vs. the high cost of a fishing job, we recommend redressing the Release Tool after every run, even if it wasn’t activated.
