Redress Kit for Baker Style #10 Wireline Setting Tool
In the critical phase of wireline completions, the reliability of your Pressure Setting Assembly (WPSA) is the only thing standing between a successful plug-and-perf operation and a costly misrun. At Royal Way, we understand that a single O-ring failure can halt an entire frac fleet. That is why we engineer our Redress Kits not just to “fit,” but to outperform.
Technical Specifications
- Standard Service (NBR): For routine operations up to 250°F.
- High-Temp Service (FKM/Viton®): For deep, hot wells up to 400°F.
- Extreme Service (Aflas®/HNBR): For Sour Gas (H2S) and chemically aggressive environments.
Sizes
- Available for #10, #20, and Compact Setting Tools etc.
Redress Kit for Baker Style #10 Wireline Setting Tool | Model E-4 Compatible

1. Executive Summary: Zero-Failure Reliability for Wireline Operations
The Model E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly (WPSA), commonly known as the “Baker #10 Setting Tool”, is the industry workhorse for setting bridge plugs, frac plugs, and cement retainers. To ensure a successful run every time, routine maintenance is non-negotiable.
Our Redress Kit for Baker Style #10 Setting Tools provides every seal, backup ring, and expendable component required to completely rebuild the tool after a run. Available in Standard Service (NBR) and High-Temp (Viton®/FKM) configurations, these kits are engineered to withstand the extreme internal pressures generated by the power charge, ensuring a positive set and a clean release, run after run.
2. Compatibility & Fitment Guide
This kit is precision-engineered to be 100% Interchangeable with all major manufacturers of Baker-style setting tools.
-
Tool Model: Model E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly (and compatible clones).
-
Tool Size: Size #10 (typically used for 4.5″ casing and smaller).
-
Maximum Setting Force: Designed to handle the standard 35,000 lbs shear force rating of a #10 tool.
-
Compatible Brands: Fits tools from Baker Hughes®, Owen Oil Tools®, and generic API 11D1 equivalent assemblies.
⚠️ NOTE: This kit is for the #10 tool (2-1/8″ OD approx). If you are running the larger #20 tool (for 5.5″+ casing), please see our #20 Redress Kit page.
3. Material Options: Matching the Seal to the Well
We offer two distinct material grades to match your specific downhole conditions. Choosing the right material is critical to preventing seal failure.
Option A: Standard Service (NBR / Nitrile)
-
Color Code: Black O-Rings
-
Temperature Rating: -20°F to +250°F (-29°C to +121°C)
-
Application: Standard pump-down operations, shallow vertical wells, and environments using standard water-based fluids.
-
Benefit: Cost-effective solution for routine completions.
Option B: High-Temp / Sour Service (FKM / Viton®)
-
Color Code: Black (Marked) or Brown O-Rings
-
Temperature Rating: -15°F to +400°F (-26°C to +204°C)
-
Application: Deep High-Pressure High-Temperature (HPHT) wells, long lateral runs where tool temperature rises, and wells containing mild H2S or aggressive chemicals.
-
Benefit: Resists “compression set” at high heat. Ensures the seals don’t harden and fail to hold the oil pressure required to stroke the tool.
4. Kit Contents: A Complete Rebuild Solution
Our Redress Kits are not just a bag of mixed O-rings. They are organized to facilitate a systematic rebuild of the Upper Cylinder, Piston, and Lower Adapter.
The Kit Includes:
-
High-Pressure O-Rings: Premium quality seals for the Floating Piston, Cylinder Head, and Manual Bleed-Off Valve.
-
Anti-Extrusion Backup Rings:
-
Virgin PTFE (Teflon) backup rings are included for all high-pressure dynamic sealing areas.
-
Why it matters: During the power charge burn, internal pressures can spike rapidly. PTFE backups prevent the rubber O-rings from extruding into the metal gap, preventing hydraulic failure.
-
-
Specialty Seals: Includes the Piston Seal and Setting Mandrel Seals.
-
Snap Rings / Retaining Rings: (Optional in some kits) Replacement external retaining rings for the adapter kit connection.
(Note: Power Charges and Oil are sold separately.)
5. Technical Deep Dive: The Importance of the “Floating Piston” Seal
The most critical seal in a #10 Setting Tool is the Floating Piston Seal.
-
Function: It separates the wellbore fluid (or gas pressure from the power charge) from the hydraulic oil chamber.
-
Failure Mode: If this seal fails, wellbore fluid mixes with the oil, or the power charge gas bypasses the piston (“communicates”). This results in a “Soft Set” or a complete failure to stroke the tool.
-
Our Solution: Our kits feature a 90 Durometer High-Modulus O-ring paired with dual PTFE backup rings for this specific location, ensuring absolute isolation even under maximum burn pressure.
6. Operational Tips for Wireline Technicians
-
Cleanliness: Ensure all metal threads and seal grooves are cleaned of carbon residue (from the previous power charge) before installing new seals.
-
Lubrication: Use high-quality O-ring grease (silicone or lithium base depending on temp) during assembly to prevent “pinching” or cutting the O-rings.
-
Bleed-Off: Always replace the seals on the Manual Bleed-Off Valve. This is a critical safety point for releasing trapped pressure at the surface.
