Oilfield Packer Elements & Sealing Systems | Custom & Standard Downhole Seals

In the downhole environment, the integrity of your zonal isolation depends entirely on the performance of the elastomer. Whether setting a retrievable packer for a frac job or a bridge plug for abandonment, the Packer Element is the single point of failure.

At Royal Way, we manufacture high-performance Packer Elements engineered to withstand the most hostile wellbore conditions. From standard 3-piece sets to complex mesh-backed unitized elements, our seals are formulated to provide a positive, leak-proof barrier against extreme differential pressures (up to 10,000+ PSI) and temperatures ranging from -20°F to 450°F.

Technical Specifications

  • Material Grade: Standard NBR (Nitrile) -20°F to +250°F
  • High-Temp HNBR -20°F to +325°F
  • FKM (Viton®) -15°F to +400°F
  • Aflas® (TFE/P) +32°F to +450°F
  • EPDM -40°F to +350°F Geothermal (No Oil)

Typical Applications

  • Retrievable Production Packers: Long-term zonal isolation.
  • Service Packers: Squeeze cementing, acidizing, and fracturing tools.
  • Bridge Plugs (RBP / CIBP): Temporary or permanent well abandonment.
  • Liner Hangers: Sealing the liner top.
  • Test Tools: DST (Drill Stem Test) tools requiring multiple set/unset cycles.

1. Executive Summary: The Critical Barrier for Zonal Isolation

In the downhole environment, the success of a completion or intervention job hangs on a few inches of rubber. Whether you are isolating a zone for fracturing, setting a bridge plug for abandonment, or running a service tool for acidizing, the Packer Element is the primary seal that stands between success and a costly failure.

At Royal Way, we bridge the gap between mass production and precision engineering. We offer a comprehensive range of Downhole Sealing Systems—from industry-standard replacement kits for tools like the AS1-X and Model R, to custom-engineered sealing solutions for proprietary tools. Engineered for temperatures from -40°F to 450°F and pressures exceeding 10,000 PSI, our elements ensure zonal isolation holds firm in the most hostile wellbore conditions.

2. Our Core Capabilities: Standard vs. Custom

We serve two distinct needs in the oilfield market:

A. Standard Replacement Elements (The “Drop-In” Solutions)

For repair shops and service companies, we stock aftermarket elements that meet or exceed OEM specifications for the industry’s most common tools.

  • Compatible Tools: AS1-XModel RAD-1Lock-SetGuiberson® Uni-Packer, and Model G.

  • Configurations: 3-Piece Element Sets, Unitized Elements, and Stretch Rings.

  • The Promise: 100% Interchangeability. If it doesn’t fit your mandrel perfectly, we don’t ship it.

B. Custom Sealing Systems (The “Problem Solvers”)

For tool manufacturers (OEMs) and engineers facing unique challenges, we offer rapid prototyping and custom molding.

  • Capabilities:

    • Custom Dimensions: Oversized elements for worn casing or non-API bore sizes.

    • Exotic Materials: Custom compounding of Aflas®, Viton® ETP, or Low-Temp HNBR.

    • Reinforcement: Design and fabrication of Mesh-BackedSteel-Insert, or Spring-Loaded anti-extrusion systems.

3. Material Science: Engineering for the Environment

We don’t guess; we formulate. Select the right compound for your specific downhole threat:

Material Service Profile Temp Limit Key Resistance
NBR (Nitrile) Standard Service 250°F (121°C) Crude Oil, Water, Proppant Abrasion
HNBR Sour Gas / Toughness 325°F (163°C) H2S, High Tensile Strength, RGD
FKM (Viton®) Acid / Extreme Heat 400°F (204°C) HCl Acid, Aromatics, Deep Hot Wells
Aflas® (TFE/P) Steam / Geothermal 450°F (232°C) Steam Injection (SAGD), Amines, Bases
EPDM Geothermal (Non-Oil) 350°F (177°C) Steam, Water (Avoid Hydrocarbons)

4. Advanced Structural Designs

The “Hard-Soft-Hard” 3-Piece System

  • Design: Utilizes a softer center element (70 Shore A) for positive sealing and harder end elements (90 Shore A) for anti-extrusion.

  • Benefit: Provides the best balance of sealing low-pressure gas and resisting high-pressure extrusion.

Mesh-Backed & Steel Reinforced

  • Design: Elements embedded with wire mesh or steel slats.

  • Benefit: The metal reinforcement expands with the rubber, creating a “Zero-Gap” barrier against the casing wall. This is essential for High-Pressure Bridge Plugs and permanent packers where rubber extrusion must be zero.

High-Memory (Low Set) Technology

  • Benefit: Critical for Retrievable Tools. Our compounds are formulated for high rebound resilience, ensuring the element relaxes back to its original OD after unsetting, preventing the tool from swabbing or getting stuck during retrieval.

5. Industry Applications

  • Completion & Production: Permanent and retrievable production packers.

  • Well Service & Intervention: Acidizing packers, cement retainers, and washing tools.

  • Plug & Abandonment (P&A): Cast iron and composite bridge plug seals.

  • Unconventional Resources: HPHT seals for deep shale and SAGD steam applications.

6. Why Partner with Royal Way?

  • Speed: We maintain molds for all standard sizes (4.5″ to 9.625″). Custom molds can be cut in weeks, not months.

  • Quality Control: Every element is checked for hardness, dimensions, and flash. Traceability is standard.

  • Technical Support: Not sure if you need HNBR or Viton? Our engineering team helps you match the elastomer to your well logs.
