Baker Style #20 Setting Tool Redress Kit – High-Temperature Seal Set (Viton®)
In the critical phase of wireline completions, the reliability of your Pressure Setting Assembly (WPSA) is the only thing standing between a successful plug-and-perf operation and a costly misrun. At Royal Way, we understand that a single O-ring failure can halt an entire frac fleet. That is why we engineer our Redress Kits not just to “fit,” but to outperform.
Technical Specifications
- Standard Service (NBR): For routine operations up to 250°F.
- High-Temp Service (FKM/Viton®): For deep, hot wells up to 400°F.
- Extreme Service (Aflas®/HNBR): For Sour Gas (H2S) and chemically aggressive environments.

Product: Baker Style #20 Setting Tool Redress Kit – High-Temperature Seal Set (Viton®)
1. Executive Summary: Heavy-Duty Performance for Deep & Hot Wells
The Model E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly (Size #20) is the heavy lifter of the completions industry, designed to set large-bore bridge plugs and packers in 5-1/2″ to 9-5/8″ casing. When operating in deep, high-temperature environments, standard nitrile seals are the weak link that can lead to catastrophic tool failure.
Our High-Temperature Redress Kit for Baker Style #20 is engineered to survive the heat. Featuring premium Viton® (FKM) O-rings and Virgin PTFE Backup Rings, this kit provides the thermal stability and chemical resistance required for wells up to 400°F (204°C). It ensures your #20 tool delivers its full 55,000+ lbs of setting force without internal bypass or seal degradation.
2. Compatibility & Fitment Guide
This kit is precision-manufactured to be a 100% Drop-In Replacement for the industry-standard Size #20 tool.
-
Tool Model: Model E-4 Wireline Pressure Setting Assembly (and compatible clones).
-
Tool Size: Size #20 (Standard OD: ~3.50″ to 3.81″).
-
Primary Application: Setting plugs/packers in 5.5″, 7″, and 9.625″ Casing.
-
OEM Compatibility: Fits tools from Baker Hughes®, Owen Oil Tools®, and generic API equivalents.
-
Part Number Reference: Replaces OEM P/N H075343200 (Viton Kit).
⚠️ SIZE CHECK: This kit is for the larger #20 tool. If you are running the smaller #10 tool (2-1/8″ OD), please select our #10 Redress Kit.
3. Material Science: Why Upgrade to High-Temp?
Standard Nitrile (NBR) hardens and loses elasticity above 250°F. In a setting tool, this loss of “memory” can cause the oil to bypass the piston during the stroke, resulting in a “Short Stroke” or “Soft Set” (plug not fully anchored).
The Royal Way High-Temp Solution:
-
Material: Genuine Viton® A (FKM).
-
Temp Rating: -15°F to +400°F (-26°C to +204°C).
-
Compression Set: Viton retains its sealing force at high temperatures far better than NBR, ensuring the tool remains pressure-tight even after sitting in a hot wellbore for hours.
-
Fluid Resistance: Excellent resistance to inhibited acids, diesel, and completions brines.
4. Kit Contents: The “Anatomy” of a Rebuild
A Size #20 tool generates massive internal pressures (up to 15,000+ PSI). Our kit includes every seal needed to contain this force, organized for the technician’s workflow:
A. Firing Head & Upper Cylinder
-
High-Temp O-Rings: Seals for the Firing Head adapter and Top Sub.
-
Manual Bleed-Off Seals: Critical Viton O-rings for the release valve (safety critical).
B. Floating Piston (The Power Core)
-
Dynamic Piston Seals: Heavy-duty Viton O-rings.
-
Double Backups: Includes Two (2) PTFE Backup Rings for the piston. Note: Size #20 tools use a larger charge, creating higher pressure spikes. Our PTFE backups prevent the rubber from extruding into the cylinder gap.
C. Setting Mandrel & Crosslink
-
Mandrel Seals: Prevents wellbore fluid from entering the oil chamber.
-
Lower Adapter Seals: Seals the connection to the Wireline Adapter Kit (WLAK).
5. Technical Deep Dive: Preventing “Extrusion Gap” Failure
In large diameter tools like the #20, the clearance gap between the Piston and the Cylinder wall can expand (“balloon”) under peak pressure.
-
The Risk: Without proper support, the O-ring is forced into this gap and sliced (nibbled).
-
Our Solution: We utilize Virgin PTFE Backup Rings with a precision-machined rectangular cross-section. These rings bridge the gap effectively, supporting the Viton O-ring and preventing high-pressure blowout.
6. Operational Tips for the Gun Shop
-
Bleed Pressure: The #20 tool holds more volume than a #10. ALWAYS verify pressure is bled via the Manual Bleed-Off valve before disassembly. Replace the bleed-off O-rings every time.[1]
-
Oil Fill: Ensure the tool is filled with proper high-temp hydraulic oil to match the Viton seals. Mixing incompatible fluids can swell the seals.
-
Inspect the ID: Check the Inner Diameter (ID) of the Upper Cylinder for pitting. Even the best seal cannot seal against a scratched cylinder wall.
7. Why Leading Service Companies Choose Royal Way
-
Traceability: Every kit is labeled with a Batch Number and Cure Date. You never have to worry about installing expired rubber.
-
Component Quality: Our PTFE backups are “Virgin” grade (pure white), not “Mechanical” grade (recycled/grey). This ensures smoother stroking and less friction.
-
Inventory Stability: We stock thousands of kits, protecting your operation from supply chain shortages.
