Royal Way 3″ FMC Style Repair Kits are supplied for selected FMC Chiksan Longsweep and TripleStep swivel-joint configurations. Final compatibility is reviewed against the exact model, drawing and dimensions before quotation.

2. Compatibility Guide: The “Longsweep” Standard

Our seals are molded to fit the specific packing bore geometry of FMC-style iron.

• Size: 3-Inch (Nominal Pipe Size).

• Target Equipment:

  • FMC Chiksan® Longsweep™ (The most common frac iron).

  • FMC Chiksan® TripleStep™ (Stepped bore design).

  • Generic Chiksan Clones: Reference equipment includes FMC Chiksan Longsweep and TripleStep styles. Final compatibility is reviewed against the exact equipment reference and service requirements.

• Pressure Ratings: Compatible with Code Silver (6,000 PSI) and Code Red (15,000 PSI) configurations.

Rebuilding a Chiksan joint requires replacing all wear components. Our kit includes:

1. Primary Packing (Seal Ring):

   • Profile: Specialized Lip Seal design that energizes instantly under pressure.

   • Material: 90 Durometer NBR (Standard) or Viton® (Chemical).

2. Anti-Extrusion Backup Ring:

   • Material: Zinc-Plated Steel or Stainless Steel.

   • Function: Prevents the elastomer from extruding into the ball race gap. Note: Our steel backups are treated to resist corrosion.

3. Ball Bearings:

   • Material: Precision Ground Chrome Steel.

   • Qty: Sufficient for all three races (approx. 80-90 balls depending on joint style).

4. Dust Seal / Grease Retainer:

   • Keeps abrasive frac sand out of the bearing races.

5. Grease Plug / Zerk:

   • Standard threaded fitting.

Option A: Standard Service (NBR / Nitrile)

• Application: Hydraulic Fracturing, Water Transfer, Cementing.

• Performance: Our NBR is formulated with a “High-Rebound” chemistry, allowing the seal to maintain contact even during heavy vibration and pressure pulsation.

• Temp: -20°F to +250°F.

Option B: Sour Gas & Acid Service (HNBR / Viton®)

• Application: H2S Environments, Acidizing Units, Hot Oil.

• Performance:

  • HNBR (Green): Excellent for Sour Crude and H2S.

  • Viton® (Orange): Best for Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) and high heat (>300°F).

5. Technical Focus: Bearing Race Protection

The failure of a Chiksan joint often starts with the bearings.

• The Royal Way Advantage: Our ball bearings are manufactured to ABEC Grade tolerances with high surface hardness. This prevents “brinelling” (denting) of the swivel races under heavy bending loads, ensuring the joint remains flexible and easy to rig up, job after job.

6. Operational Tips for FMC Swivels

• Don’t Mix Balls: Never mix old ball bearings with new ones. Old balls are smaller due to wear; mixing them causes the new balls to take 100% of the load, leading to rapid failure. Always replace the full set.

• Grease Relief: When greasing the joint after a rebuild, ensure the relief plug is removed (if applicable) or rotate the joint to allow old air/grease to escape, preventing the dust seal from blowing out.

• Check the Gender: Ensure you are installing the packing facing the correct direction (Lip facing the pressure source).
