Not all 2-inch swivel joints are created equal. The SMI (Southern Manufacturing) Style swivel joint features a unique “Oversized” ball race and packing bore design, offering enhanced load-bearing capabilities. Standard FMC-style seals will NOT seal in an SMI housing.

Our 2″ SMI Style Oversized Swivel Joint Kits are engineered specifically for this distinct geometry. Manufactured to exact aftermarket tolerances, these kits provide the heavy-duty packing, anti-extrusion rings, and ball bearings required to recertify your SMI style flowline equipment to 15,000 PSI standards.

2. Compatibility Alert: Is your Iron “Standard” or “SMI”?

⚠️ CRITICAL FITMENT WARNING:

This kit is designed ONLY for SMI Style “Oversized” Swivel Joints.

  • How to tell: The packing seal in this kit has a larger Outer Diameter (OD) and cross-section than a standard Weco®/FMC® style seal.

  • If you have Standard Iron: Please see our 2″ Standard Swivel Kit (Fig 1502 Style).

  • The Risk: Installing a standard seal in an SMI swivel will result in an immediate catastrophic leak. Installing an SMI seal in a standard swivel is physically impossible (it won’t fit).

Restoring an SMI swivel requires more than just a rubber ring. Our kit is a comprehensive MRO solution:

  1. Oversized Primary Packing:

    • Profile: Specialized “SMI Profile” with a deeper sealing lip.

    • Material: 90 Durometer NBR (Standard) or Viton® (Chemical).

  2. Anti-Extrusion Backup Ring:

    • Material: Brass or Stainless Steel.

    • Function: Specifically machined to match the wider SMI packing groove, preventing the seal from blowing out under pressure.

  3. Chrome Steel Ball Bearings:

    • Qty: Full set included to replace worn or pitted balls.

    • Spec: Hardened bearing grade steel for smooth rotation under load.

  4. Dust Seals / Retainer Rings:

    • Prevents contamination of the ball race.

  5. Lubrication:

    • Includes replacement Grease Zerk.
